Tesla on the Move in China!

And Tesla said the cost of building these cars in China
is 65% less expensive to build than in the U.S.
which will result in larger sales because the cars will be more affordable
(and no tariffs).

And it took only 10 months to go from muddy field to this...

If you'd like to see a timelapse video of the building of this factory,
and how much room for expansion there is, watch here.

SMART SUMMON IN CHINA

Tesla recently released Smart Summon in China. With the feature, users can now have their vehicles pick them up at a designated location in a parking lot (no more forgetting where you parked). And soon you will be able to drop yourself off at the entrance to a mall, and the Tesla will then go find a parking spot. Both GREAT if it's raining!

The rollout of Smart Summon in China, aside from providing a new convenience feature for local customers, is also a good way for the U.S. electric car maker to collect more data and improve the feature. This is particularly important in China, since the country is expecting an influx of Teslas in 2020 with the imminent deliveries of the Made-In-China Model 3.

Tesla initially released Smart Summon in September 2019 together with its V10 software update. While the feature’s initial iteration left a little to be desired, improvements rolled out by Tesla through its Over-The-Air updates have made Smart Summon smoother and more reliable over the past few months, and this is thanks to all that "fleet learning" feedback Tesla benefitted from. (So, no one should buy an EV that can't do OTA updates, and most of them can't... another benefit of a Tesla.)

Just last week, Tesla China lowered the price of the Model 3 sedan from $50,000 to $42,919, a move that undercuts BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the entry-level luxury sedan market!

March 31, 2020

Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai is pumping out 3,000 Model 3s per week.

Work on Phase 2 of the factory is progressing (for Model Y production)

UPDATE:

December 26, 2023

18,500 Teslas were insured in China last week, up nearly 38% year-over-year.

This result was the second best week of the year, and the third best week ever.
These results were above expectations. Tesla China rocks!
