The
retreat will be held on the grounds of the
Michigan Friends Center
in Chelsea (20 miles west of Ann Arbor).
There are many illnesses today that are thought of
as simply the natural consequence of aging, but nothing can be further
from the truth. During this weekend you will discover how to allow
your body to heal that which ails you, and how to keep yourself truly
healthy throughout your life. We say truly healthy to distinguish
it from health care that utilizes drugs, therapies, surgeries, and
treatments -- which is more appropriately referred to as an ill-health
care system. While this "management" approach certainly
has its place in emergency medicine, it is not necessarily the best
way to deal with or prevent chronic, degenerative diseases like heart
disease, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, osteoporosis, stroke, Alzheimer's,
irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia,
attention deficit hyperactive disorder, restless leg syndrome, depression,
and many of the yet to be named conditions that are supposedly best
dealt with by taking medication.

At a young age,
Don discovered inconsistencies within the health field, such as
doctors who smoked, and nutritionists who ate foods that were known
to be harmful. Being a seeker of truth, he set out to learn the
realities of health for himself. Discovering that traditional curriculums
were filled with biases, hidden agendas, misinformation and missing
information, Don became self-taught, avoiding the hurdles set up
by academic tradition. He took a commonsense approach to such subjects
as physiology, anatomy, and biology, and learned the value of looking
passed the "conventional wisdoms". This approach, in conjunction
with studying the teachings of the pioneers of healthful living
and their modern day equivalents, and putting into practice what
he had learned, allowed him to discover the realities of health.
Thirty years later, as a Disease Avoidance Specialist, Don now shares
this wealth of enlightening and empowering knowledge with others
for their consideration and benefit.

Being
a Truth seeker all of her life, Ellen has amassed more than twenty
years of independent research on the topics of health and nutrition.
The knowledge gained from numerous workshops and training events in
the complementary fields of raw food nutrition, yoga, physical fitness,
and sustainable living practices, in addition to her own personal
experience adhering to a raw vegan diet since 2002, has empowered
Ellen as she pursues her passion for true health creation. Her love
of sharing her discoveries with others has found an outlet in the
formal trainings and classes Ellen offers. Having a Master's degree
in counseling, and Registered Yoga Teacher certification, along with
Raw Nutritional Science training has enabled Ellen to develop a thorough
understanding of what is needed to obtain optimal health, and to impart
this valuable information to others in a sincere and down-to-earth
manner.
