You'd think the world was coming to an end listening to the renewable energy haters. Here's what happened. There was a fire at a new Tesla Megapack facility in Australia that was under construction. The headlines read...
But here's the thing, the fire was confined to a single Megapack, none of the other 49 Megapacks were affected, and as of today, the cause of the battery fire remains unknown. Wouldn't you think that before any debates ensue that it would be nice if the cause of the fire was known? And it's not like all 50 Megapack caught on fire causing tons of adjacent property damage with residents in nearby towns needing to be hospitalized from toxic fumes. None of that happened. This could have been caused simply by the carelessness of one installer. But as far as Senator Canavan is concerned, this event is bad enough to call into question the very notion of renewable energy to help Australia's power grids, even though other Megapack facilities that have been online for many months without incident have already solved reoccurring brownout issues in Australia, strengthening the country's power grids. Could the Senator's position have anything to do with the large amounts of campaign contributions he's received from the fossil fuel industries? No, that couldn't affect his judgment, could it? And I could say "shame" on those publications who create clickbaty titles or who are influenced by the fossil fuel industries so they blow incidents like this out of proportion for self-serving reasons, but saying that wouldn't affect their behavior at all because they are run by people who don't care about the environment or future generations, only their own paychecks. And to any freethinking, intelligent person, the Senator's statement of, "Our new energy grid is worse than our old energy grid" would automatically discredit the politician. Clean energy from wind, solar, and geothermal is only bad for the fossil fuel inductees and those who profit from them. Australia's Federal energy minister, Chris Bowen, countered Canavan by citing recent fires at fossil fuel facilities.
