The Health 101 Newsletter

Issue 1
A Newsletter Worth Reading
By Don Bennett, DAS

As you may have noticed, you've not been receiving a lot of newsletter emailings from me. This is because I've been trying to figure out what's important to write about. What do people really want to know?

Your time is very valuable, and you may already get other newsletters in your email inbox, so I've always been sensitive to not filling up your inbox with what I call "daily drivel". But many of you who have signed up for my mailings have signed up more than once because you thought you were no longer on my list because you weren't receiving anything from me. So I'm going to try and send something out more often.

But what to post? If it were me, I'd want to receive enlightening and empowering information; interesting information is nice, but lots of it can be a chore to pore over (and so-called informational emails that are really sent for the purposes of selling something are off-putting). I feel that the best posts are about what the reader is really interested in. So I've decided to ask you, the subscribers to the Health 101 Newsletter, what you want me to write about. You usually don't get asked a question like this (unless it's from someone wanting to know what book you would like them to write, but this is for marketing and sales purposes). How great would it be if a newsletter discussed what you wanted discussed.

Now you may be thinking that a value-added service like this is going to be one of those for-a-fee newsletters, but this is not how I roll. If you are familiar with my website and my work, you know that my "raison d'être" is to help others dramatically improve their health and wellbeing. "Sales" is secondary (you have only to compare my products page with just about any other wellness-oriented products page to see this).

So here's how it works. Fill out the "comments" box here, and tell me what you'd like me to write about in these newsletters; what aspects of health creation would you like clarification on, and what issues do you find confusing, and I will do my best to cover them. Obviously, questions should be of a general nature; things that may be of interest to others as well will get top priority. I am always happy to help with issues of a personal nature, but those can best be addressed via coaching/counseling).

Looking forward to hearing from you!

A China Observation

A friend who is currently in China emailed me this buffet menu for an event he happened to see at his hotel. All in attendance were Chinese.

"Western Night" Buffet

Vegetable soup

Beef stew

Chicken Cacciatorre

Paella (beef, chicken, sausage, and rice)

Spaghetti Alfredo

Focacia (similar to pizza)

Roasted potatoes

Cooked corn on the cob

Poleuta (fried flat bread from ground corn mixture)

Corn garlic bread

Assorted savory desserts (no fresh fruit)

And we wonder why the Chinese middle and upper classes are experiencing worsened health. But fear not, Merck, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer, Novartis, Eli Lilly, and surgeons galore to the rescue! It's interesting to note that hospitals in China get 60% of their revenue from the sale of pharmaceutical drugs.

And just for the heck of it I added up the 2006 U.S. sales figures for the top 20 pharmaceutical companies... $497,519,000,000. That's almost half a trillion dollars! And this was five years ago; you can be sure it's higher today. This is good for them, but a very bad sign for everyone else. But we can avoid becoming dependent on those companies for our continued existence in the future by respecting our body and eating and living in accordance with our bio-physiological nature today.

  Quote of the Day

"All parts of the body which have a function, if used in moderation and exercised, become thereby healthy and well developed and age slowly, but if unused and left idle, they become liable to disease, defective and age quickly." – Hippocrates, Greek physician, 460-370 B.C.

J.R. Liggett's Bar Shampoo

Very gentle on your hair, doesn't strip your hair so you don't need to use conditioner, and it comes wrapped in paper! Just use it on your hair as you would a bar of soap. (Be sure not to let it sit in water in between uses or it will vanish.) Go to their website here.
